The site of the future installation is no ordinary patch of land. Since 1957, it has hosted Vatican Radio's shortwave transmission center, on extraterritorial land granted to the Holy See under agreements with the Italian government.
A solar panel system is being built on the 424 hectares of extraterritorial land in Ponte Galeria, which within a year will make the Holy See the first zero-emission state in the world.
