India Marching Ahead in Solar Energy Growth in Solar Installed Capacity (MW) as on 11.02.2025 Figures and Statistics
Customer ServiceSolar Energy Generation in India is rapidly evolving, driven by the country's vast solar potential and ambitious renewable energy targets. With a growing emphasis on sustainable development and energy security, solar energy generation in India is transforming the landscape of the nation's power sector.
As of July 2024, India's installed solar energy capacity is 87.2 GW, which is a 30-fold increase over the past nine years. The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) estimates that India's solar energy potential is 748 GWp. According to estimates, India has a potential to generate up to 750 GW of solar power.
Solar's share in India's power generation mix has begun to rise significantly since crossing the take-off point (1% of generation mix) in 2018, and is now entering an “accelerating growth” phase. NEP14 projects solar's share in the mix climbing from 5% in FY 2022 to 17% in FY 2027, and ultimately reaching 25% by 2032.
The generational solar capacity include Ground based plant, Solar rooftop and hybrid projects. Cumulative : 100.32 GW The country has ambitious targets for renewable energy, aiming for 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030, with a significant portion expected to come from solar energy.
